Forging Ahead
Dance Continuum SF presented our second season, Forging Ahead, at CounterPULSE in San Francisco. There were four world premieres and one previous piece by co-artistic directors José Ivan Ibarra and Peter Litwinowicz, whose styles blend soft and tender movement with athletic and dynamic counterpoints. This works explored a wide gamut of human desires and relationships and will include original film, cartoons, and sensual dining. The show included the premieres of "Out to Lunch," "Tom and Me," "Inner Child," "Mujer (Ayer y Hoy)" and also included one repertory work, "Touch."
August 19, 2008
Touch (Meditation) will be shown as part of the 2008 WestWave Dance Festival's Film Festival at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater.
October 2007
Intimate Places
We had a successful first season, October 12-14, 2007, when we shared a show with Huckabay McAllister at CounterPULSE in San Francisco (at 9th and Mission).
INTIMATE PLACES features new choreography by HMD's Artistic Director Jenny McAllister, as well as Peter Litwinowicz and José Ivan Ibarra of DCSF, as they adventure into a variety of snug, sensual and secret spaces: McAllister's darkly humorous "Next Time, I'll Take the Stairs" is a Twilight Zone-inspired exploration of how strangers communicate without words - on elevators as well as in other dark and mysterious places. Litwinowicz will present the deeply sensual "Touch", finding the poetry in both the mundane and grand activities we perform with our hands, while Ibarra's "Boundaries" finds inspiration in the mysterious Dali paintings "The Burning Giraffe" and "The Invention of Monsters". McAllister will also present the SF premiere of "Bluebeard's Wives", a new take on an ancient fairy tale. You won't want to miss this show!
